Getting Orphan is one of the worst things that can happen to a child. Unfortunately, millions of children worldwide do not have anyone to care for them- they are either living with relatives, sleeping rough, living in foster care, or orphanages.
Research suggests that there are approximately 15.1 million worldwide orphans. These children have a very tough upbringing, they have no one to look towards when growing up, they do not have access to proper education and healthcare. These are the children who need our help.
In the Bible, James encourages people to care for orphans and widows, these are the most vulnerable sections of society that require assistance in living a normal, dignified life. Less fortunate orphans resort to anti-social activities like drug and alcohol abuse, crime, pickpocketing, etc.
Many people are unaware of this orphan crisis, as we do not interact with these unfortunate people in our daily lives.
Though local Churches, parishes, and non-governmental organizations are doing all they can to help these unfortunate children, it isn’t enough. Millions of orphaned children across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas live on the fringes of society, making do with whatever they can while living in unacceptable conditions.
Being responsible citizens of the world, we cannot sit idle when so many innocent orphaned children live a life that is fraught with risk and uncertainty.
We can, however-
Pray
This is the least we can do. We can ask God to shower His blessings on those less fortunate. We can pray for the well-being of those clerics, volunteers, and couples who work tirelessly for these orphans. These unsung heroes work hard, raising funds and resources from the rich and famous to feed and uplift the lives of the poor.
Consider adoption
Adopting a child is no easy task. There is a lot of paperwork to go through along with numerous interviews and other formalities, especially if you opt for international adoption. Across the world, there are thousands of children who are eligible for adoption, but few people come forward to adopt them. This is perhaps the biggest service you can do to society, adopting an orphaned child and raising them as your own.
Regardless of you already having kids or adopting your first one, adjusting to another unknown person can be quite daunting. Many parents get cold feet before they formally adopt a child. Nevertheless, adoption is a great way to help those in need.
Donate
You can make a difference to society by donating your hard-earned money to those organizations and NGOs that work for orphans’ welfare. Your small donations can be of great help to those in need. There are many organizations, clerics, and priests working for the welfare of the world’s orphans- some provide them medical care, others give them a good education, yet others help them be independent economically.
Despite all this, there are still many orphans who are struggling to survive, many have taken to crime and drugs and have relegated themselves to the margins of society. It is time we help them by assisting those who help them, giving them funds so that they can help more orphans get the support and care they need.
Support
Another way to help those in need is to help those who help orphans. You can assist NGOs and other like-minded organizations to raise funds and resources to help them achieve their goals.
Many NGOs are working towards giving orphans in orphanages a decent education, healthcare facilities, or vocational training so that they can stand on their own feet. You can volunteer at these organizations to help them achieve their goals.
Summing Up
By now, we are sure you know how to help worldwide orphans. Helping those in need is something that the Bible tells us, how we help them is up to us. Let’s work together to make this world a better place for orphans on the fringes of society.
